Didem Serin

MA, LMFTA/Sex Therapy Intern, (She/They), Sex, Relationship & Intimacy Therapist

I have spent ten years of my life studying psychology and still can’t get enough. I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and my Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling focused on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Then I attended a Humanistic Experiential Therapy Certificate Program for a year, where I fell in love with Satir’s Transformational Systemic Therapy which led me to work with systems and relationships. Currently, I am a graduate student in the Couples and Family Therapy program and a Sex Therapy Certificate candidate at Antioch University Seattle. I strive to provide social justice-oriented, trauma-informed, body & sex-positive, LGBTQ+, kink, polyam, and culturally-affirming psychotherapy. I practice from a curiosity-based, strengths-focused, intersectional, and collaborative framework. I aim to cultivate a safe, nonjudgmental, nurturing, and empowering space where you feel held and heard. I believe you are the expert on your life. My priority is to support you in creating positive changes at your own pace. It is my honor to witness your story and support you on your transformational healing journey.

What You Can Expect

Many individuals are apprehensive about starting therapy as change can feel daunting. As a therapist, I aim to create spaces in which we can be more aware, vulnerable, and authentic together. Once people begin to feel validated and supported, that opens up a safe space where they may consider ways to live in accordance with their values. I believe that empathic relationships can be transformative. It’s amazing what small changes in a person’s life can do for their sense of agency and autonomy. There’s tremendous value in slowing down, naming what we are feeling, and processing our experiences.

As a systems therapist, I consider the many contexts involved in making each person’s experience unique and tailor treatment approaches to my client’s unique needs. I center my work around Narrative Therapy to reauthor stories and create new meanings. I also practice attachment-based theories and Emotionally Focused Therapy, so please get ready to be curious about your emotions’ messages, relationships with early attachment figures, childhood memories, and attachment ruptures. My clients describe me as approachable, direct, transparent, and resourceful. Most of my clients are surprised by how much they laugh in therapy.

My Story

I was born and raised in Turkey where food is the ultimate love language. My family never intentionally taught me how to cook, but I learned through observation while sneaking into the kitchen to nibble the ingredients. I consider this as my introduction training to be a pleasure activist. My secular parents raised me in a conservative culture, this experience paved the way for me to understand differences can coexist. I am so proud of my own unique healing story, and I believe we all are a work in progress. I am passionate about spreading this sacred work, and I hope you can feel my enthusiasm for what I do when you meet with me.

Interests

While I am not working, you can find me resting (REST is RESISTANCE!) I also love practicing Lagree Fitness workout to reconnect my mind and body, dancing like no one is watching, listening to podcasts, and watching stand-up comedy shows. I enjoy spending time with my three affectionate children: going for a bike ride with my human child, taking long walks with my dog child, and sipping coffee with my coffee-lover cat child.
