Cat Buckley

MA, LMFTA (she/they) Sex, Relationship & Intimacy Therapist

I remember sitting in my therapist’s office at age 23. I felt like I couldn’t hide, that my innermost thoughts were written on my skin. Instead of judgment, my therapist read me with compassion and unconditional support. Together, we rewrote my story. It would be my honor to help you rewrite yours.

What You Can Expect

I am invested in your sense of safety. While we will move at your pace, I will also compassionately and intentionally challenge you to expand your comfort zone.

By moving slowly and with curiosity, we can find answers in the most unexpected places. My narrative approach utilizes laughter, gentleness, and compassion as we examine the stories that have dominated your life and choose how to rewrite your story moving forward.

I am excited to work with individuals and relationships of all structures. As a systemic therapist, I recognize that your individualized experience is impacted by a labyrinth of systems: family, workplace, culture, spirituality, etc. My job is to investigate the interaction of these forces and to learn from your unique expertise of your lived experience.

My Story

Despite being born in dusty west Texas, I have always felt called to the ocean. I studied International Political Economy at the University of Puget Sound and began my career as a sailboat captain and SCUBA instructor upon graduation. This career allowed me to travel all over the world, engage with new ideas, and humbly learn about the power of connection. My experiences of humanness on and off the water empowered me to take a leap of faith and dive into the mental health field. I graduated from Texas Tech University with a Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy, where my clinical focus included queer, trans, and poly affirming therapy and a specialization in working with sexual trauma. When I reflect on my life, I see moments of big joy, book-ended with moments of overwhelming grief. While personally unpacking the trauma of purity culture, sexual violence, my own identity, privilege, and my relationship with gender, I have additionally walked with my family through experiences of medical trauma, emotional abuse, incarceration, and addiction. These experiences undoubtedly color the lens through which I see the world and my approach to therapy.

Interests

For two years, my sidekick has been my three-legged Chihuahua/Corgi mix, Captain, but I’ve recently adopted a joyfully chaotic kitten named Cricket. I try to spend as much time as possible outdoors, road-tripping, hiking, and exploring, but I am no stranger to self-care in the form of a Netflix marathon (preferably Buffy the Vampire Slayer). My bucket list is perpetually growing longer with every new experience and person that I meet.
